Well, it turns out I had some time to look at grub's documentation. I still don't find grub as useful to a blind user as lilo is. Here's why. 1.) Yes, the documentation does say that one can get a Ctrl-G with the pause command, but then you must always act to continue the boot. As things stand for me with lilo, I can choose when I hear my two beeps--or let the system go ahead and boot the default unattended. Since my bios is set to automatically restart in the event of power failure, I have full confidence that my system will come up to default settings even when I'm away. And, when I'm present, I can choose nondefault ones, if I wish. Pause would not give me this flexibility. 2.) It is unfortunate that command line mode is only available by user intervention, or by the lack of a configuration file. I would prefer that it could be specified as a user preference. Yes, grub has some lovely features. But, it's quite clear to me the grub team had no input from anyone regarding the needs of our community. -- Janina Sajka, Director Technology Research and Development Governmental Relations Group American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) Email: janina@afb.net Phone: (202) 408-8175 Chair, Accessibility SIG Open Electronic Book Forum (OEBF) http://www.openebook.org
