RHCE certification

Hi,

As mentioned on this list recently, I've been hoping to become RH certified,
but owing to a problem with ordering the course (purely local admin), I
haven't started yet, and I'm beginning to wonder if I've missed the boat.
Anyway that's beside the point.

I had got as far as checking out the E-learning approach to RH certification,
as offered on their web site, and found it to be reasonably accesible (at
least, the demo was). However, as you say, there is a lot of emphasis on
using GUI tools for administration. I was hoping that I'd be able to learn
the operation of the GUI more or less by heart, to the extent that I would be
able to answer questions on it, without ever actually having used it. I had
arranged with Red Hat in the UK that I would have a sighted emanuensis who
would sit between me and the computer on which I was answering the questions,
so that I wouldn't have to interact either with the question paper, or the
machine on which I was to carry out the tasks involved. I thought it was
unlikely that they would let me load any software such as brltty onto such a
platform.)

E-learning, where accessible, seems to me to be a far better solution to
training, as you're not holding up the rest of the class trying to slog
through the worked examples, and you can work at your own pace, and
concentrate on what's important to you. However, as I say, I was only at the
evaluation stage. RH offer a 30-day money back agreement, so you can try the
E-learning without risking losing too much cash.

Hope this helps,

Tim Pennick
