unexpected serial card list search results

The command: cat /proc/tty/driver/serial <cr> on my system didn't show any
types of serial cards known to the kernel.  What it did show was serial
info results like ports and irqs and uarts were unknown.  After having had
a look at that output which writes to stderr I'm surprised anything on
this system including the litetalk is working at all.  The litetalk is
there and does show up correctly though.  If this is all that red hat 7.0
can do towards getting a siig 20x pci serial card contacted I'm stuck.
