Star Office, and it's GNU counterpart from Sun, Open Office, are not yet accessible. It is true that documents created in this application (I use the singular because it's really only licensing which distinguishes the two) are compatible with MS Word. But, the application itself is not accessible yet--though Sun is actively working on it. Instead, use catdoc, or use my favorite wv to read Microsoft Word documents under linux.
