Re: Looking For Recommendations On ATA Raid Controller

- PCI64 interface
- supports 2 x 120GB ATA V Seagate Barracude drives (ST3120023A)
- has *real* RAID (hardware not software) 0,1,0+1 and hopefully 5
- has working drivers for Red Hat 9 (2.4.20-18.9) - source code is fine
- doesn't cost an arm and a leg

Thanks in advance for any recommendations you provide.

They are 64bit, 33MHz.

Real RAID. Hardware. 0,1,10,5, depending on the number of connectors (2 channel card obviously doesn't do 10 or 5)

Very, very nice open source drivers since roughly the time Jesus got his first sandals. Probably built into your distro-default kernel already, you can even boot off it.

It's as cheap as you can get, for what you want. There really isn't much else for true hardware ATA RAID. The Adaptec cards are the only others I know of, they are typically more expensive, $ per drive. Those are Highpoint chips and an i960 processor to do the ops.

www.hypermicro.com is pretty much the only online retailer. Prices range from ~100$ for the two channel 0/1 card to 739$ for a 12 port serial ata RAID card.

Most likely you'd want a 7500-4LP. It's 245$, and low profile as well. 4 channels, 4 drives max, RAIDs 0,1,10,5 and JBOD. As noted, the two channel card (1/0 only) is around 100$, not too bad.
