If you are using only Linux on this machine, then there is no benefit in
using the pdcraid driver over software RAID.  It will be more optimal
with Linux software RAID, and considerably easier to setup and maintain
in the future.

I haven't been able to get GRUB to work either.  I ended up using the
patched LILO at http://ataraid.slimyhorror.com.  Someone is yet to post
working installation instructions for GRUB that works on my array.
