Using Promise of Software Raid

Hi!

I'm trying to setup RAID 1 using a Promise 20265R (the "lite" version). Since the this is revealing to be more dificult than I hoped it was, I am now considering using software raid.

>From what I gathered, reading pdcraid.c and this mailing list archives, the raid driver for this card, just provides a software emulation for raid.

Since this box we'll be hard to update, I must now make the decision to use "pure" software raid or keep trying to use the pdcraid driver.. This is were I cry out for your help :)

Is there a chance that this driver we'll evolve to use the Fasttrack hardware ? Or is this as good as it gets ?

One other question, is there a short, mini-howto, to setting up this driver (the pdcraid) with a fresh redhat 7.2 installation ?
I installed RH without problems, compiled 2.4.16 and got the kernel to find the /dev/ataraid devices. But after that, I couldn't seem to hack grub into booting from the raid array..

Thanks in advance,
Manuel Capinha
