Moving to 2.2 is currently not really an option.
Currently i'm looking at squid (in accelerator mode) , but that's
outside the scope of this list I assume...

You can use an apache 2.2 proxy+cache in front of a 2.0 server in the
same way as squid if you want. But really, the only reason not to move
to 2.2 would be a proprietary module from a behind-the-times source.
The upgrade is easy.
