As others have mentioned, mod_disk_cache mostly works.

But you are much better off using 2.2 where it is no longer
experimental and has received many fixes.

Moving to 2.2 is currently not really an option.
Currently i'm looking at squid (in accelerator mode) , but that's
outside the scope of this list I assume...
