Unfortunately, strace doesn't build on amd64 thus I can't use it. Is there some other way to get a trace?

Use truss on FreeBSD, the syntax is the same as the strace command above.

root@server# truss -o ./httpd.trace httpd -X
truss: cannot open /proc/71922/mem: No such file or directory
truss: cannot open /proc/curproc/mem: No such file or directory


That produced an empty file.
