MaxSpareServers  2048

1000+ simultaneous connections is not uncommon this server.

Within minutes I get the dreaded error after 1000 total children:

[debug] mpm_common.c(663): (70007)The timeout specified has expired: connect to listener on [::]:80

So there is something on the server preventing us from running more then 1000 total children.

Max open files is:

Max open files            16384                16384                files  

I would expect a high load if this was a resource related issue, but the load is under 1.
