The U.S. Department of Transportation's monthly Air Travel Consumer Report shows that 69.7 percent of flights arrived to RDU on time. Three-quarters of flights departed the airport on time, the report says. On-time performance was up from a year earlier. In February 2007, 65.6 percent of flights arrived at RDU on time. The uptick coincided with a national increase, as 68.6 percent of flights arrived on time in February 2008 across the country, up from 66.8 percent a year earlier. The Transportation Department describes an "on-time" flight as one that makes it to the airport within 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival. At Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, 73.4 percent of flights arrived on time in February. At Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, 63.5 percent of flights were on time. Delta Air Lines posted the best on-time rate of any major carrier, as 76.7 percent of its flights arrived on time across the country. American Airlines took up the rear with a 61 percent rate.
