Advice? Flights to BKK

A friend is booking an itinerary - Fort Wayne to Bangkok (FWA-BKK). The
winner appears to be United - FWA-ORD-NRT-BKK.

As there are multiple itinerary choies at her price, and with my limited
overseas travel experience, I'm deferring to the braintrust for advice.

1. What should she consider when chosing an itinerary?

2. Is a 3-ish hour layover at both ORD and NRT practical?

3. If she is flying all United flights (All UA flights, all UA planes, no
codeshares), will her luggage automatically transfer, or must she claim it
at NRT and re-check-it in?

4. Any other considerations that I've failed to think of?

Many thanks, as always.
