CCTV, the Chinese TV program in English, announced that there will be 48 "charter" flights from mainland Chinese airports direct to Taipei during the forthcoming Chinese year-end holiday season. 24 of the flights will be by 6 different Chinese Airlines, and 24 by 6 different Taiwanese airlines. The Taiwanese airlines will each fly four flights. The Chinese carriers get from 2 to 8 flights each, for a total of 24. It was not clear if this was 48 round trips, or 24 total roundtrips. Ordinary air travel from Taiwan to China requires a stop in Hong Kong. Happy New Year!
