MAYNARD LIVES ON. Did you know . . . that in addition to the recent name change at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the new international terminal will be named the "Maynard Holbrook Jackson Jr. International Terminal." (Can you say REDUNDANT? Can you imagine what the sign will look like with all those letters?) The city anticipates that the construction for the International Terminal could commence as early as this year and anticipates occupancy in the Spring of 2008. SPEAKING OF JACKSON. Have you ever noticed all those billboards along the airport concourse walls? Controversy is still swirling over the deal awarding the on-airport advertising contract to Barbara Fouch, an old friend of Maynard Jackson (and godmother to one of his children) instead of another ad agency (Corey) without political connections to the city. Apparently Fouch got the contract claiming she is a member of a "disadvantaged" minority group. She has held the contract since 1981, which awards her 30% of the profits earned by her "partner" Clear Channel Communications. Corey (represented by one-time Georgia Attorney General Mike Bowers) says that Fouch, who owns a Beverly Hills PR agency, is far from disadvantaged. They have filed a suit against Mayor Franklin and other city officials alleging illegal bid-rigging and favoritism for a political insider.
