Plane crash shuts Halifax airport

Halifax =97 A large cargo jet with seven crew members aboard crashed off the=
=20
end of a runway at Halifax International airport Thursday. The fate of the=
=20
crew was not known.
The MK Airlines jet - a Boeing 747 - was apparently loaded with tractors=20
and seafood. The plane went down as it was taking off and ended up in a=20
rock quarry, said airport and RCMP officials.

Some witnesses reported seeing a fireball but that could not be confirmed.

Cab drivers taking passengers to the airport reported that they had been=20
turned back, saying all they had been told was that there was some sort of=

incident.

said cab company owner Angus McGillivary. =93We got a cargo plane down=
 that's=20
taken down the power at the airport.=94

He said his drivers could not see anything except for a darkened airport.
