Clay / All:

'Better or worse?' No one can say, however, I believe
that ATC folks were paid quite well. Republicans have
a general rule of paying less and making you feel
lucky you have a job. Of course, the ripple affects
went throughout the industry in that management stood
up to union and worker demands. They had them cowed.

There was talk then that the ATC's would give in since
most were in Vietnam and that they were accustomed to
following the orders of their 'Commander in Chief.'
That being Mr. Reagan. However, that didn't work. OH,
yes. There was talk of a 'slow-down' thus, bring in
plane by the numbers, thus backing up the entire
network. Not sure if it actually happened, though.

This win for Reagan was a death blow to the unions.
Arguably, all unions. I think it rings true, even
today.

As for the big three, I think they were United,
American, and TWA. Perhaps Delta was four then or
maybe Eastern Airlines.

As for government workers going on strike, why not?
They're people, too!
