Delta to upgrade West Virginia service Delta Air Lines is replacing turboprop planes with jets on all its regional Atlantic Southeast Airlines flights between Charleston, W. Va., and Atlanta, according to wire reports. Starting Feb. 15, Delta will use 50-seat Bombardier CRJ regional jets instead of the 30-passenger Embraer Brasilia turboprops currently used on the three of the six daily flights. Three other daily Atlanta-Charleston flights already use jets. The jets will reduce travel time to Atlanta by about 20 minutes. One of the six daily Atlanta flights will be eliminated, but there will be a net gain in the number of seats available on flights between Charleston and Atlanta because of the larger size of the jets. Delta's passenger loads originating in the West Virginia capital have increased substantially since the airline moved to a jet fleet on four flights a day serving its Cincinnati hub last year.
