New security rules affect Iowa's Orange Bowl travelers

University of Iowa fans taking one of the seven Orange Bowl charter flights=
=20
from the Eastern Iowa Airport on New Year's Eve will have to drop off their=
=20
luggage the day before. Dec. 31 is the first day all bags will be screened=
=20
at the airport, and with seven Florida-bound charter flights scheduled,=20
airport officials fear the extra passengers could overwhelm the new=20
explosives detection machines, according to The Associated Press. To get=20
around that, local officials developed plans for a "luggage drop-off" on=20
Dec. 30 =97 a day before the new security requirements go into effect. "If=
=20
passengers flying on a Dec. 31 charter flight do not drop off their luggage=
=20
the night before, there's a good chance it will not be on the plane with=20
them the next day," said Airport Director Larry Mullendore. On a regular=20
day, he said the airport's three explosive detection machines would be able=
=20
to handle all luggage.
