Hello from bizjournals.com! David Mueller (dmueller7@lycos.com) thought you might like the following article from Pacific Business News: United Airlines slashes fares -- including Hawaii Howard Dicus Pacific Business News ------------------------------------------------------------ United Airlines, in the financial flight of its life, decided on fare play Wednesday and slashed most of its fares including routes to Hawaii. For the next three months and beyond, United will charge 10 percent less on most domestic routes, bringing many mainland fares below $200, and 15 percent to 20 percent less on most overseas routes, for tickets bought by the end of this month. There are few exceptions and few conditions. Airlines usually make deeper cuts on fewer routes. United appeared to be cutting fares just enough to lure passengers but not enough to trigger retaliatory fare cuts by competitors. Several of the cuts had been matched by rival carriers by Wednesday night, however. Bestfares.com said some of the best United offers were $500 discounts on fares to Hawaii with two-week advance purchase, not the cheapest fares to the islands but among the cheapest for Hawaii travel with that little notice.
