Senators urge DOT to approve American-British Airway deal Members of the Senate are putting pressure on U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta to approve American Airlines' application for a passenger-sharing alliance with British Airways, according to Air Transport World. In a letter addressed to the Department of Transportation, 37 Senators said the alliance will create "many new, seamless connecting opportunities for air travelers, particularly those from small to mid-sized communities." The pact would allow the airlines to coordinate flight schedules and ticket sales, but the airlines have repeatedly balked at conditions regulators have said are necessary for approval.
