Bonus offers pile up for Northeast shuttle flights If your next flight on the Northeast shuttle leaves more than five minutes late, you could pocket 1,500 frequent flier miles for the inconvenience. That's the latest offer by US Airways and Delta, which are trying to keep their top customers from jumping to Northeast shuttle newcomer American Airlines, says The Washington Post. The promotion lasts through the end of the year, and US Airways' offer even applies in the event of bad weather. Of course, there is fine print. Both carriers say the bonuses won't apply if a flight leaves its gate on schedule but is delayed on the runway. Still, the promotion is part of an escalating series of mileage offers on the ultra-competitive shuttle flights. Delta and US Airways currently offer bonus miles to passengers unable to board their flights within 20 minutes of checking in at ticket counters or ticketing machines. Delta will award 20,000 miles, while US Airways will give away $200 travel vouchers. One of US Airways' top offers is a 100,000-mile bonus to any passenger who has to board a US Airways shuttle flight by crossing the tarmac. That's a subtle dig at American's service, which requires some passengers to cross the tarmac to board the regional jets it uses on its shuttle flights.
