$6m loss for national airline Trinidad Express Even as it tries to cope with a US$8.4 million (TT$51.8 million) first half= =20 loss in the aftermath of September 11 terror attacks, national carrier BWIA= =20 continues to haemorrhage financially because of a dispute between its=20 pilots and management. The latest update on the troubled airline shows that= =20 from July 12-31, BWIA lost TT$6 million in revenue to competing airlines=20 because of delays and cancelled flights. In the first four days of August=20 alone, the airline lost another $2.2 million, an employee communiqu=E9=20 indicated on Tuesday. The figures do not include refunds and some other=20 associated airline expenses incurred when flights are affected. While the=20 airline has had no official notice of a pilot slowdown, the airline has=20 been thrown into chaos as flights have been affected for several weeks due= =20 to the unavailability of crew. At least 52 flights in the period July 12 to= =20 August 4 were cancelled because of crew problems and another 65 flights=20 suffered crew delays, the communiqu=E9 said. BWIA would be =93vulnerable=94= from=20 September 10, when peak travel stops, chief executive Conrad Aleong said=20 yesterday, speaking on CCN-TV6=92s Morning Edition programme. From September= =20 to around the middle of December travel slows down considerably and does=20 not pick back up again until about December 15.
