1. Many, if not most, airline pilots are either
currently in the military (i.e. National Guard/AF
reserve) or are ex-military. Therefore, they have
weapons training. Many times, this would be better
training than the air marshalls.

This really doesn't matter at all. You can be ex Green
Berret if you want. But a pilot is hired for piloting
duties, not for "guarding the planes".

2. The pilots would be given training specifically on
the use of weapons in aircraft

"See my reply to #1".

3. A locked cockpit door will not stop a terrorist
wanting to get into the cockpit. However, once it
(yes, "it" for a terrorist is not human) gets into the
cockpit, it would be good to have a final line of defense

Of course not. I didn't say "lock the door, and you will
be safe". All I am saying is, the on the ground security
has to be good enough so that pax can be safe.
The terrorists of 9/11 had box cuttes, so that did the job.
Do you think that if pilots had the guns that would do the
job? I don't think so because it was a normal hijack case,
and pilots were trained to obey the hijackers until
they were on the ground.
If they had guns, then the terrorists would bring explosives
on board. Would you shoot at a guy who is holding an explosive,
or the pin of a hand grenade?

4. The reason this nation still has most of its
freedoms is because its citizens are armed. There are
countless numbers of incidents where the homeowner with
a gun has pervented injuries/robberies from criminals.

This nation is the ONLY developed nation in the Western
World that it's armed to its teeth. I know I will get
accused of being "tree hugger" but it's better than being
a "gun hugger". :) I guess I made myself clear in terms
of where I stand on this issue. Since it's not completely
aviation related I will leave it at that..

5. Up until just a few years ago, pilots were allowed
to carry weapons in the cockpit. This fact seems to be
conveniently overlooked by the media and the idiots we
call representatives and senators.

Why they are not allowed anymore? Whoever might have
changed that, gets my vote. :)

6. If a pilot's job is the "safety of transporting the
pax... from point A to point B," doesn't that
automatically include the pax's security?

No! Not at all... If a pilot's job is the security
of the passangers, then I want to be searched by them
when I am boarding my aircraft.. See how silly it
sounds..

in my cockpit
