The radio said the plane was a Tu-154, a Russian-designed Tupolev with a 148-passenger capacity. The plane left Tehran on Tuesday morning for Khorramabad, about 375 kilometres (230 miles) southwest of the capital. A senior official of Iran Air, the state carrier, said the aircraft belonged to its affiliated company Iran Air Tours. There was no immediate information on the cause of the crash. Previous crashes Another Tu-154 plane crashed near Irkutsk in Russia last July, killing all 133 passengers and 10 crew members aboard. In May of last year, a Russian-made Iranian airliner crashed in north-eastern Iran. All 30 people aboard the YAK-40 were killed, including the transport minister and seven lawmakers. Officials then blamed the crash on bad weather and pilot error.
