The department said final approval of the AA/BA partnership and another between UAL Corp.'s United Airlines and British Midland was dependent on reaching a new, more open, aviation trade pact with Britain. The United States said it would propose the divestiture of 238 weekly slots at Heathrow airport, allowing a total of 17 daily round-trips by competing U.S. airlines. It said 224 of those weekly slots should be given up at Heathrow by British Airways and American. The alliances seek antitrust immunity to allow the partners to closely coordinate their schedules and ticket pricing. http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/business/business-airlines-britishairlines-amr.html?ex=1012979241&ei=1&en=0ef47240dc1a030d HOW TO ADVERTISE --------------------------------- For information on advertising in e-mail newsletters or other creative advertising opportunities with The New York Times on the Web, please contact Alyson Racer at alyson@nytimes.com or visit our online media kit at http://www.nytimes.com/adinfo For general information about NYTimes.com, write to help@nytimes.com.
