The filenames differ only in one having fc8 and one having fc9. I
would have thought that fc9 meant an upgrade as well, but check for
yourself. My original message has a copy/paste of both what it says
is installed and of the exact name of the rpm file as downloaded from
an updates repo.

the yum package itself was the same way, differing only in one being
fc8 and one being fc9, and it wouldnt upgrade either. I did a manual
"rpm -Uvh yum-versionidontremember.fc9.rpm" after downloading from a
repo. it went through and now rpm -qa lists the fc9 version of yum
for me.

This isn't the case with my files (and definitely is not the case with
the example of httpd-tools), unless there are just a handful of
packages that are this way and I didn't notice fc9 being behind fc8.

i will give --skip-broken a try, i was just hesitant to use it without
consulting this yum list directly.
