'kernel|python|rpm|yum|pirut|glibc|openssh'|sort
This uses the rescue cd's rpm and libraries, but points it to your own
install.
What does this say ? {by the way, since this is probably more fedora
than yum related, consider moving this thread to fedora-list@xxxxxxxxxx}

By the way I have more FC3 servers to update. All I did was boot this
first one from the FC6 CDs and go through the upgrade. Should I have
gone FC3->4->5->6 instead?

I'm not sure if the /mnt path is correct - you'll need to work that out.
# rpm --root /mnt/sysimage -Uvh rpm-4 {tab to select whichever one is
on the cd/dvd}
# rpm --root /mnt/sysimage -Uvh /mnt/cdrom/Fedora/RPMS/yum-3 {tab
complete}.
# rpm --root /mnt/sysimage -Uvh pirut {tab complete}
You probably get the drift... any other requirements could be installed
manually if any one of these fail. I don't remember trying out if yum is
installed on the rescue image, which would make install easier.

Thanks. Wish I didn't have to trouble anyone over this, but its true
linux folk are the most helpful.
Most of us appreciate occasional compliments like this: keep it up. Let
us know how the rescue goes, ie what it took exactly; perhaps we can put
it on the fedoraproject wiki.
