If you do a:

rpm: error while loading shared libraries: librpm-4.3.so: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory
http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=librpm-4.3.so
gives rpm-libs for fc3 or rpm for <=fc2 !
So it seems that rpm did not upgrade.

Firstly, have you rebooted since the upgrade ?

Time for the rescue CD (or first CD/DVD):
linux rescue

What is actually installed:
rpm --root /mnt/sysimage -qa --queryformat "%{NAME}-%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE}.%{ARCH}\n"|grep -E 'kernel|python|rpm|yum|pirut|glibc|openssh'|sort

This uses the rescue cd's rpm and libraries, but points it to your own install.

What does this say ? {by the way, since this is probably more fedora than yum related, consider moving this thread to fedora-list@xxxxxxxxxx}

dbus-python-0.70-6.i386
glibc-2.5-3.i686
glibc-common-2.5.3.i386
glibc-devel-2.5.3.i386
glibc-headers-2.5.3,i386
gnome-python2-gconf-2.16.0-1.fc6.i386
gnome-python2 is needed for the above !

gnome-python2-gtkhtml2-2.14.2-4.fc6.i386
{not installed on my machine but seems to be an fc6 package}

kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6.i586
There is a fc6 anaconda bug that causes the i586 kernel to be installed even on i686 machines {>=pentiumII and >=amx k6 from memory}
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=211941

libxml2-python-2.6.26-2.1.1.i386
libxslt-python-1.1.17-1.1.i386
pirut-1.2,5-1.noarch
Installed but it's dependency gnome-python2 is not installed !

python-2.4.3-18.fc6.i386
python-devel-2.4.3-18.fc6.i386
redhat-rpm-config-8.0.45-6.noarch

rpm itself is not installed. installing it would bring in rpm-libs, sqlite, and any other package that is not installed.

rpm-build-4.4.2-32.i386
rpm-devel.4.4.2-32.i386

yum is not installed. installing it would bring in rpm-python, python-sqlite, python-urlgrabber etc.

Man, my setup looks so hosed. Is there a fix for this please?
By the way I have more FC3 servers to update. All I did was boot this first one from the FC6 CDs and go through the upgrade. Should I have gone FC3->4->5->6 instead?
Ok if theres no quick fix I'll go to the other newsgroup - does anything jump out from these filenames please?
With CD1 or maybe the DVD {im not sure}.
boot: linux rescue
...
# cd /mnt/cdrom/Fedora/RPMS
I'm not sure if the /mnt path is correct - you'll need to work that out.

# rpm --root /mnt/sysimage -Uvh rpm-4 {tab to select whichever one is on the cd/dvd}

# rpm --root /mnt/sysimage -Uvh /mnt/cdrom/Fedora/RPMS/yum-3 {tab complete}.
# rpm --root /mnt/sysimage -Uvh pirut  {tab complete}

You probably get the drift... any other requirements could be installed manually if any one of these fail. I don't remember trying out if yum is installed on the rescue image, which would make install easier.

Good luck, DaveT.
Thanks. Wish I didn't have to trouble anyone over this, but its true linux folk are the most helpful.
Most of us appreciate occasional compliments like this: keep it up. Let us know how the rescue goes, ie what it took exactly; perhaps we can put it on the fedoraproject wiki.
