I don't think the post by Kushal mentioned anything about money. I think people would still participate in GSoCs if there wasn't any $$$ in it, because GSoC participation counts at par with internship experiences. Or so I have heard ;-) Some numbers like the contributions of participants before GSoC, during GSoC, and after GSoC for previous Fedora GSoCs (or for all GSoCs in general) would be fun to look at. Also, I think every proposal has at least a couple of entries. Interesting to see how many of the unselected entries follow up with the progress of the proposal. Just sayin'.
