Uvh doesn't install the (new) prerequisite non-upgrades,
which is why I asked to begin with.
There's no way to:
(1) freshen what's there before
(2) install whatever the freshening needs you to add
Basic scenario I'm looking to accomplish is:
(1) install a baseline rh72 configuration
(2) keep that stuff up to date automatically
(3) add nothing to that baseline other than upgrades
for those specific packages
The real problem is that the perl 'upgrade' was not
an upgrade really, it was more than that. RH messed up.
The underlying problem is that rpm doesn't have any way
for me to install the upgrade without installing the
added stuff, which I really don't want to do. Catch-22.
Short-term answer is to simply not upgrade perl, but
someday I'll need to, and RH's mis-packaging and rpm's
inadequacies will get me at that point.

Yes Redhat really screwed up when they released that Perl errata update,
and I grilled them for it. Originally they said it could be updated
with a -Fvh, so I submitted a bug
report,(http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=60800) which
they closed, and then I resubbed it, and they went and fixed the page,
and changed it to a Uvh.
