Thanks for the reply, I got it sorted out. However I am interested by your
comments because I do run a sed script on XF86Config-4 but in /etc/rc.sysinit.

When Linux boot's the user has the option of interrupting the boot (kudzu
style) and running Xconfigurator. This is to handle machines we haven't
encountered before.

After this a sed script adds the VTSysReq option and changes the mouse
protocol from "PS/2" to "IMPS/2".

I don't have an /etc/x11/Xconfigurator.conf file. If there's a better way of
adding these lines I would be pleased to hear about it.
