We were discussing this on IRC even couple times, trying to find the
best solution, without good success however. We agreed that using
XMLRPC over local socket file would be the best option (there is no
problem with authentication since we can leave this to local file system
permissions and we don't have two separate interfaces which have to be
keep in sync all the time, thanks to XMLRPC). The biggest problem is
that most (if not all) standard XMLRPC libraries only supports TCP.
As far as i can remember this was the state of discussion last time.
Are there any new ideas?

It's a national holiday here, so that's why I'm not online. I'll be
there tomorrow.
Given the recent post about opensymbolic, and them also needing
something similar, I think moving ahead with this is a good idea.
The question is (to Luca, etc) is can they make their Grails-side of the
things use it easily enough. If that's the case, perhaps you guys can
prototype
some of the above and we'll have multiple interfaces to try it out with.
