We agreed that using XMLRPC over local socket file would be the best option (there is no problem with authentication since we can leave this to local file system permissions and we don't have two separate interfaces which have to be keep in sync all the time, thanks to XMLRPC). The biggest problem is that most (if not all) standard XMLRPC libraries only supports TCP. As far as i can remember this was the state of discussion last time.
