I have been using Thinkpads for about 20 years. I ended up buying what was available at the local Walmart: a Gateway laptop with 8GB that has the same footprint as my ole laptop. This means that I can use the same carrying bag for it, specifically a backpack that doesn't look like it has a laptop in it.
