I have in the past dedicated a device to audacity by turning it off for pulseaudio in pavucontrol and setting audacity to use it as alsa. Works great. But mixing alsa and pulseaudio control of a device is a recipe for problems.
I believe the reverse is applicable in my case. Audacity I think is using ALSA directly and not PulseAudio.
Do you know how to configure PulseAudio for Audacity ? Because there is no way to change it in the Audacity GUI.
