e2fsck -c -v /dev/sdd6 which is verbose and read only, so it should be faster. It doesn't make any changes to the disk. The disk is already unmounted, which is what you want when doing these diagnostics and repairs.
Did you get the wrong parameter? -c is for checking for bad blocks, -n is to do a readonly check.
