You may find it easier to use nano if you aren't comfortable with vi. One if the nice things about it is that the most important commands are listed at the bottom of the page, including the one to get help, ^G. The only thing you have to remember is that nano uses the old convention, going back at least to CP/M, that prefixing a character with a caret, as I did above, means what many people would type as CTRL+G.
