Gottit! Thanks very much! 'Twas simple once I was nudged in the right direction. I've set a compose key (to be the left Windoze key) following instructions, and the system works like a charm.
One more thing, if I may be permitted: You (Tim) in your previous email mentioned the possibility of needing a cheat-sheet for the less obvious key combinations for constructing "non-standard" characters.
Do such cheat-sheets exist? Is there a URL whence I could obtain one?

If you're really gung ho, you can get a whole book: "Compose Key Sequence Reference Guide 2012" by Sander van Geloven. I have a hard copy,
and I don't remember who was selling it, but it says on the information page at the befinning, "Published globally on line by Hellebaard,
Utrecht, Netherlands." It also says, "ISBN 978-1-4681-4119-8 perfect bound paperback in English."
It not only has Compose key sequences, it also has a lot of Unicode entries, for times when the Compose key is insufficient. However,
the Unicode index is far from complete: it doesn't have unaccented Greek characters, and it has no Arabic or Japanese, etc.
