I started by saying that it is not great for yet another infrastructure replacement to ignore what's gone on before and expect other projects to change if they are not going to gain functionality. I stand by that. I've now looked into what Xwayland is doing (what little information is available) and if it lives up to its claims it should have little performance hit and I think a WM should be able to run on it, certainly the type of lightweight one that doesn't have much to gain by writing Wayland support.
