So I assume the virtualbox.org version has features not in the yum version?
Virtualbox does work with the previous kernel and I was able to create a
WindowsXP install that appears to work.
The Centos Live Spin that I had runs but will not install from the desktop

I hate to ask this, since you posted it already, but what kernel are you running? Another thing that I have run into is that, oddly, sometimes the kernel will automatically make their way to update lists and the virtualbox package will make it to the update list, but the virtualbox kernel mods (the package is kmod-virtualbox) will not.
For instance, when I updated my kernel to 3.10.3-300.fc19.x86_64, the kernel mod package did not make it to the automatic update list. Thus, I had kmod-virtualbox_3.9.9.301.fc19.x86_64 installed and I got the problem you got. When I looked, kmod-virtualbox_3.10.3-300.vc19.x86_64 was *available* but had not been installed, so I had to yum install it myself. No big deal, but I had been assuming that it would be picked up automatically in the "updates" list, and it wasn't.
I know you posted the kernel you were on, but I deleted it. If it's 3.10.3-300 or earlier, then you might just have to install the kmod-virtualbox package by hand.
