And for me, it took only a short time to get XFCE looking almost exactly like Gnome 2 and working even better. I love it and even if the Gnome devs introduced an option to make Gnome 3 look and work the way I want I'd never go back because XFCE is so much more responsive and isn't as resource intensive.
