well, the installer always puts grub.conf in /boot/grub/grub.conf and if
it isn't there, you aren't going to be able to boot.

Apparently during the installation, you must have told the installer to
put grub somewhere other than the default location. You probably want to
re-install and use the defaults unless you are sure...especially when it
asks you where to install the bootloader.

Also, fwiw, make a 100Mb RAID 1 partition for /boot on all of the
drives.
