When booting in rescue mode before I get to the command prompt I get a
Rescue splash screen with an error message.
"An error occurred trying to mount some or all of your system. Some
of it may be mounted under /mnt/sysimage."
At the command prompt
The "mount" command returns the following:
A bunch of (rw) and one (ro)
the last one says:
"/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol100 on /mnt/sysimage type ext3
(rw,errors=continue,user_xattr,acl,data=ordered)"

Craig,
When trying to run the command
"grub-install /dev/sda"
I get the following message:
"No suitable drive was found in the generated device map"
Any ideas as to what is happening?
Thanks for the help

makes me curious what the hard drive setup is...it's obviously not a
standard setup.
if you boot into linux rescue mode, what is output of command
'mount' ?
really all we're interested in is /mnt/sysimage and /mnt/sysimage/
boot

something doesn't make sense.
Boot DVD/CD in linux rescue mode.
At command prompt, type 'mount' and let me know what it says
about /mnt/sysimage and /mnt/sysimage/boot
I do not understand why you are seeing (ro) so I think you are talking
about the DVD. If you tell it to locate Linux installations, it should
automatically mount them at /mnt/sysimage
