Like you said the command "grub-install -v /dev/sda" works.
It returs the following:
"grub-install (GNU GRUB 0.97)"
After exit the chroot and the shell reboot.
Andafter taking out the DVD, the computer hangs and do not do
anyting......????

I think you are right about the multiple installations.
I did try to reinstall 2 or 3 times hoping to overwrite and fix the
problem.......
What should I do now?

given that output, there is no reason that running
'grub-install /dev/sda' should give you an error.
you should be able to boot if you can run that command (booting into
linux rescue mode and first, 'chroot /mnt/sysimage' as I described
earlier.
You can add a 'verbose' to that command...
grub-install -v /dev/sda
so that it provides more feedback. I have to believe that /dev/sda1
is /boot and should have also been mounted during 'rescue' mode.
