Yes, I know it is based on proprietary code. Lets not get into that.

I make this post in case the powers that be don't realize its missing.
Please double-check  - I have both kernel 2.6.27.19-170.2.35.fc10 and
the corresponding kmod-nvidia module running on my system with no
issues.

The kmod-nvidia modules (at least the ones I know) are hosted by RPM
Fusion (http://rmfusion.org). A quick check of their repository shows
they are indeed available for all 170.2.35 kernel versions (i386, PAE,
x86_64). They show as having been posted on 2-24-09.

You might need to clear your yum cache (yum clean all) and try again.
Give that a shot and let us know...

Maybe it's one of your yum plugins, or are you using specific repo mirrors?
What does this mean...:
