You're sure that the keyboard isn't plugged into the mouse port, and
*some* things are accomodating that?  But, otherwise, I can't think why
a keyboard wouldn't work in one OS where it does in another, it's a very
basic piece of technology.  I'd be inclined to try swapping things
around, if you can borrow another to try.

On the other hand, if a USB keyboard works, now might be the time to
treat yourself to a good new one.  ;-)  I just did that, I got sick of
putting up with a hideous to type on keyboard, and decided now was the
time to do something about it.
