Hmm, I wonder if you've been bitten by the 'anaconda installed a 586 kernel' bug.

Yup, you're right. I followed those instructions and sure enough I had an i586 kernel. I've installed the right one and toshiba_acpi is fine now. Great. Thanks for the help Dave.

I do wonder if anyone *isn't* being affected by the rather large anaconda bug, since I've checked on 3 separate fresh installs on 3 completely different machines (Laptop Celeron, a desktop Athlon and a desktop Core 2 Duo) and all of them had the wrong kernel...
