I really don't understand the difference between two packages

emacs: with GTK+, etc.
emacs-nox: without GTK+, etc.

and two packages:

emacs-gnome: with GTK+, etc.
emacs: without GTK+, etc.

Aside from the renaming, how is this different from the present
situation?
