At least for some of my packages it's not possible to simply remove the *-config scripts, they are an essential part of the build infrastructure. I don't see how (b) is possible. How do I tell a foo-config script whether it's doing an -m32 or an -m64 build? > 2) Wordsize specific #defines and similar in a header file. Not possible without massive deviation from upstream. joe
