Quoting Raphael Clifford <raphael@xxxxxxxxxxxx>: > http://www.fedoralegacy.org/download/ doesn't appear to contain clear > instructions for how to use yum with fedora-legacy. Nor apt, nor without apt/yum, etc. > a) A link to the current recommend versions of yum for each redhat release. I'll try to add some links to yum/apt when I get time. I'm not sure how this will be done, as it could potentially grow into a large list that is hard to maintain if I list each separately. So I may just make some kind of more generic link, or something... > There is also a howto for yum and redhat 7.x at > http://www.fedoralegacy.org/docs/yum-rh7x.php that really ought to be > linked to. The very last line of the page says: See also the <link>Documentation</link> page for more information on using yum. Which if you follow that Documentation link will show you the yum page you want. > b) The sentence "After installing apt or yum, please see the mirror list > <http://www.fedoralegacy.org/download/mirrors.php> and choose the > closest and fastest mirror for your location." has a link to a page that > does not mention yum at all. It is not clear to a non-expert what to do > in this situation. We're still waiting for mirrors. Until there is an official list of mirrors, that page is kind of pointless... I assumed the list of mirrors would be available in a day or two after that page went up, so I linked it in. But so far no mirror list has been provided... The page is there mostly because it provides info on how to get apt mirrors in. I would love for it to also provide info on yum mirrors, but no one has contributed any such info. I'll try to put something out there about our yum coming preconfigured, etc. and a pointer to the documentation page, but I'm not yet sure how this will all work out in the end. > I wonder if there is some overlap between pages that is causing the > confusion. All the info needed to get a package management app working > ought to be on one page IMHO. Well, the bigger problem is missing content. I suppose we can consolidate and merge stuff, but until we get the missing content we're going to be in trouble no matter how many or how few pages we have. Bottom line is I don't use apt, I don't use yum, I am not a mirror, so I can't really document these things. If someone who uses apt/yum provides me with accurate content, I'll put it on the web. If someone sets up some mirrors and feeds me the data, I'll post it on the web. But I can't do it all alone... Well, actually I will try to do it alone if no one else steps up, but it will take a long time to do it... So please, if you can help, step up and help! None the less, you comments are useful, and provide me with some ideas. I'll see what I can do about the situations you mention. > Cheers, > Raphael -- Eric Rostetter
